'Oga yenne' I don't know if this is the right thing to do, but I'm compelled to do it cos I have received over 20-30 messages from different people about this guy in the last 2 months

Just this afternoon, a lady I respect so much dropped these pictures with a message in my inbox 

She wrote:

"About 2 weeks ago, a young man by name Slyvester Ubom whose picture is attached here came to my shop for assistance.

When he narrated his story, I gave him the little I had, but obviously, it's not what only I can handle.

I promised to connect him to you for a wider reach.

This man is suffering from cancer and speaks so well. He said he was the former Mr Nigeria......pls if this is what you can do, I would link you up with him she.

He came again today, and sincerely, I don't know what to do again."

Until proven otherwise, I will continue to see this guy as a scammer preying on people's soft spot for humanity and pitiful stories to extort from them on the streets of Uyo.

About 3 months ago, I met this guy in the shop of my neighbour where he came to share his story and beg for money. The lady didn't have a good day cos a random guy who came to her shop that day to beg from here ended up stealing the Mercedes Benz logo on her costumer's car that was parked outside. 

How he did that, we never knew. 

It was at that point he came, and the lady chased him away. As a guy, he felt for him and called him aside and asked him what his problem was. 

He shared the same story he tells everyone. I Googled him and found a few posts about him on Twitter and Facebook. Nothing solid was said about his medical condition, but I saw a lady who posted him soliciting d0nations for his health [a medical doctor, I guess]

To back up his claim, he was with some printed documents, including his birth certificate, school certificate, and other stuff. Going through the photocopied documents, I realized one major document was missing a medical report from any hospital or laboratory showing he had cancer.

I asked him for a medical report, he said he submitted it at the office of the Catholic Bishop of Uyo Diocese cos he was equally in Uyo to see him and solicit support, that he forgot to make an extra photocopy of the said documents. 

I promised to take up his case to my social media platform if he could provide me a medical report to support his claims. He promised to go back to the Bishop office to retrieve the document so he could photocopy and bring it back to me the next day. He made me believe he may not know the road to my office the next, and I gave him my phone number and transport to aide his coming back.

To date, this guy hasn't called me nor visited my shop again.

Each time people call me about him, I tell him to ask him for his medical report, and I am not sure he has been able to provide that to any of them.

Next time you see him, ask him to show you the medical report that certified him cancerous. I am not saying he is lying o.

I just needed a proof that he has not been able to show anyone since he arrived at Uyo, including myself. How then did he know he was suffering from cancer?

I love to help but not give my platform to someone who can't make an effort to convince me. If you need help, I shouldn't beg you to prove you have a problem.
