President Bola Tinubu has extended his condolences to the government and people of the Islamic Republic of Iran over the death of President Ebrahim Raisi.

This was disclosed in a statement by the spokesman of the president, Chief Ajuri Ngelale on Monday in Abuja.

NewsBand reported that the Iranian president Ebrahim Raisi died after his helicopter crashed amid heavy fog in northern Iran. Raisi was 63.

Rescuers on Monday found the chopper that was carrying the Iranian president, as well as the country’s foreign minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and other senior officials, after it crashed in the mountainous northwest reaches of Iran

Tinubu expressed grief over this tragedy, describing Raisi as a leader who was committed to the development of Iran.

Ngelale said that while commiserating with the bereaved families, Tinubu prayed for the continuous peace, stability, and prosperity of the Iranian nation.

“On behalf of the government and people of Nigeria, the President assures the Islamic Republic of Nigeria’s support and prayers in this moment of grief,” he said.
